VIRGIN BEACH RESORT CORAL REEF IS NOW A MARINE SANCTUARY!

The Barangay of Malbago, where Virgin Beach Resort is located, has declared the coral reef which runs the entire length of the barrio, a marine sanctuary and the process is being completed with the Department of Natural Resources.  This will protect the corals from illegal dynamite fishing and illegal net fishing (which can drag along the bottom and destroy corals).  This also makes funds available for the barangay to purchase a motor boat and staff it to patrol the reef.  Benefits also include preservation of the existing corals and funds to restore and encourage growth of new corals.  Virgin Beach Resort plans on putting bouys in the coral so boats for snorkeling and scuba diving can tie to these instead of dropping anchor and destroying the corals.

Cebu Divers have been to the resort several times and will be working with Virgin Beach Resort on bringing tourists to the resort for scuba diving.  The swimming pool is deep enough for beginning scuba lessons and the coral reef is excellent for beginners and intermediate divers.  The drop off for the channel is also excellent for experienced divers and Virgin Beach Resort has a big enough motor boat to take divers to other dive spots in the northern part of Cebu including a ship wrect and other declared dive spots.

Free Wi Fi (wireless internet) at Virgin Beach Resort

Here's Steve, one of our long term staying guests using his lap top with free Wi Fi in the Orchid Restaurant at Virgin Beach Resort Cebu.  Our new wireless Smart modem/router saves him thousands of pesos a month as he enjoys going online several hours a day.  Now our guests can avail of free Wi Fi at Virgin Beach Resort in the Orchid Hotel.  Signal is only up to 30 meters but plans to add an auxilary antenna are in the works so that guests can use the free Wi Fi anywhere on the resort.

We also have Magic Jack and offer free calls to the U.S. and Canada for our overnight guests.  Our goal is to make your stay at Virgin Beach Resort enjoyable and affordable.

Virgin Beach Resort Cebu Goes Green!

Since the beginning, Virgin Beach Resort has been recycling glass, steel and aluminum and we have always used rain water for service in the resort.  We built cisterns or tanks to hold rain water with the construction of our very first building and now have tanks where ever there is a metal roof to save the rain water.  By doing this, Virgin Beach Resort has reduced the amount of water needed from the barangay water service to almost zero most of the time. 

This week, we have taken another giant step in the "green" direction and started a compost pile.  Note the photo above.  Now we have a "no burn" policy for all the organic material that can be composted and turned into rich organic soil for growing more lush tropical landscaping.  And, since our soil is very thin here (mostly rocky terrain), it is a win win situation. 

We are currently looking into wind and solar power to reduce our environmental "foot print" even more.

Zip Line Arrives at Virgin Beach Resort Cebu

Just finished this last week of January 2010.  Great fun!  Hang on tight and scream like a girl.  Guests say its a thrill ride comparable to riding in the front seat of the bus going from Cebu City to Virgin Brach Resort Cebu, LOL!  Pregnant women and people with heart conditions not allowed to zip!

New Baby Girl Horse, Princess, at Virgin Beach Resort Cebu

Our riding horse, Beauty, gave birth first week of January to a baby girl, Princess.  Princess loves to be petted and enjoys running around and kicking up her heals.  She already answers to her name!  We will add her to the riding horses in a few years.  The papa is probably Peanuts, our driving horse for our tartanilla.  Look for the video on youtube/virginbeachcebu.

Virgin Beach Resort Basketball Team

If you want to play basketball, just ask the staff to get our basketball team from Suba (the sitio we are in) and offer snacks and a prize and I'm sure you will have a great game!

Lots of Beautifull Orchids at Virgin Beach Resort Cebu

We call our hotel at Virgin Beach Resort the Orchid Hotel because we have hundreds of orchids growing around the resort and on the veranda of the hotel.  We try to grow different kinds, but some will not survive due to the very hot weather at times.  Here are a few samples of the beautifull delicate orchids we have around Virgin Beach Resort...a tropical paradise.

Mini Golf Remodled at Virgin Beach Resort Cebu

Our original mini golf (putt-putt golf) was built in 1996 and has been popular with guest ever since.  It is the Visayan version with the Magellan's Cross Kiosk in Cebu City, Chocolate Hills of Bohol, a volcano in Leyte, VBR taytayan (bridge), native pumpboat (banka), isda dako (big fish), bahay kubo (nipa hut), matud nila (guitar) and lube (coconut tree).  9 holes in all and free to our guests.  Try it and have fun.  We've had many "holes in one".  Free San Miguel if you can make one, LOL!
